Government Shutdown and the Hearing Office: UPDATE 10/9/2013

Effective October 9, 2013, a full staff had returned to work at our local Columbus Office of Adjudication and Review and it was anticipated that activities would resume "as normal."  Since then we have again begun to receive phone calls from various hearing offices to schedule new disability hearings and have also begun to receive new disability hearing decisions.... this is all great news for claimants whose claims are pending at the hearing level!

how will the government shut down affect my social security case?

As the gears of our government machine grind down to (at least a partial) halt, there are many questions about how the Social Security Administration and its disability program will be affected.  According to the SSA's 2013 Contingency plan, it is expected that we will likely encounter the following changes during the period of the shut down...
